I do! Been playing it since release.

I just about finished a game as Japan, going through Westernization and everything. Definitely wasn't the best playthrough but I learned a lot about playing non-Western nations.

Yeah I am stuck between trying The Hansa, Brandenburg or Norway. I kinda want to wait until the next patch brings in more national ideas though, as I think it will make the German minors more interesting.

I learned an absolute tonne playing as Britain too, especially about the importance of Light Ships!

How was Japan? I heard rumours that they were horrifically bugged?

There were certainly a couple bugs but my experience wasn't as bad as some people's. The worst part for me was the poorly explained unification decisions you get as Japan. I started as the Shogun and picked the wrong decision which set me back a bit, particularly because it put me way over the diplomatic relations limit.

I also learned that if you want to Westernize before the late game (it really sets you back if you wait that long), you need to take Exploration Ideas and rush East or West. You often don't see any Western nations out near you until the 1700s.

Europa Universalis IV Empty Re: Europa Universalis IV

A multiplayer game would be a dream come true, but... I just don't think it's realistic for me. March of the Eagles might be possible at some point though, since there isn't much to distract from the waging of war. Wink

I think what disappoints me about EUIV is how ultimately linear it is. The attempt, or rather the need, to dominate trade leads to specific wars of conquest that continue all game. That's a wonderful addition since it makes conquest a little more rational than just 'more tax' but it pales in comparison to the original Vicky. 'I'm short on artillery compared to the new German Reich, so I'd better convert some pops to soldiers. But I'm short on regular clothes, so I'll just convert these pops into workers and open a new factory! Uhoh, I need more tropical wood... I'd better conquer this part of Africa!' was a little extreme, but it made for a much more engaging empire-building experience. Or simply March of the Eagles combat, that would make me care less about the monotony of EUIV conquests. >.>

Europa Universalis IV Empty Re: Europa Universalis IV

I just sent this to Tysha, but then thought some of the rest of you might be interested;

Ever dreamed of a world without Spain, Portugal and France? One where Sweden has been crushed, and Norway rules Scandinavia? A world where the Muslims own half of Europe, and Scotland stands as one of the final bulwarks against their encroachment? A world where the Golden Horde reached Germany, and where Italy is partially Ottoman?

www.stormwind.co.uk/image1/Converted_Scotland1399_10_16.rar

I got bored of my Viking game, and remembered that I had that masterpiece in my backlog somewhere. Used the CK2 -> EU4 Converter, and hey presto an entirely new world. I did play initially as Scotland, and I think they would still be really interesting as you really are the last defence against a Muslim Europe, but any of the others would be enjoyable too. I'll likely play as Lancaster, seems like a proper enough challenge to me!

My aims in the CK2 game were to preserve England as far as I could, and to not grow Scotland too big so that they were good to play in EU... I think I succeeded. I love developing scenarios like that Razz

Just unzip it, and drop into My Docs -> Paradox Interactive -> Europa Universalis IV folder (straight in there), and fire up the game, in the launcher it will appear as a mod.

Ah my bad; http://stormwind.co.uk/image1/Scotland_1399.rar

My Docs -> Paradox Interactive -> Crusader Kings II -> eu4_export -> mod. Unzip to that folder.

Sorry I'd given you the wrong thing before :S

Note; I took it from that folder, so hopefully it will work. It might also be possible to drop it into a mod folder on EU4 (which would actually make more sense), but I guess the launcher is told to look in both places. If it doesnt work, try creating a mod folder in EU4, and see if that works.

Europa Universalis IV Empty Re: Europa Universalis IV

That's one massive Catholic Golden Horde. Suspect But I love seeing these kinds of crazy alternate histories. I'm honestly surprised how few pagans are left though. Post-TOG I hardly ever see that in CK2.

I have a long-term project of my own that I'd like to convert. I forget the exact date, but it's beyond 1160 right now and I've expanded Byzantium through Germany and Italy. The Empire literally stretches from the North Sea to the Aegean. France is split between Lothringia and the ever expanding Muslims, though the former keeps having succession wars between the Karling dynasty and a cadet branch of my own. Interestingly, the British Isles are still Christian. Scandinavia is mostly Norse and Poland is a pretty large Slavic kingdom. However, I personally exterminated the entirety of reformed Tengri.

Ultimately, I'm trying to establish the Roman Empire. I'd like to actually engineer things so that the HRE is created too, but that will require some editing. It doesn't help that Catholicism is a heresy! I also plan to create the Kingdom of Jerusalem and release them as a vassal to have an independent Orthodox theocracy down there.

Europa Universalis IV Empty Re: Europa Universalis IV

That Scotland game was pre-ToG (hence the Hordes were Catholic, the way the devs got them to stop being Hordes was to convert them to Catholic / Orthodox... don't think they do that any more).

My current game is being a complete bitch. I started as the Count of Gotland, and decided to invade Russia. Things went well at first, and I carved out a decent chunk of land around Kiev, but as soon as I got a border with Hungary they've been mercilessly chomping away at it, and there is nothing I can do about it. I keep pressing further and further east (just took Muscovy), but they just keep coming!

It's really quite annoying actually, as the AI seems to ignore truces, and every year or so they declare a conquest on another of my provinces.

Your game looks interesting! I am always careful not to over conquer in CK2 though, so that there remains things to do in EU4 and V2. I learned that the hard way in my Holland game where I owned the entirety of the Americas by the time I got to V2 and there just wasn't any challenge left.

My ultimate aim was to use Russia as a springboard into Byzantium and then usurp it to form a Norse Roman Empire; thanks to the Hungarians that is rather unlikely now. And its all because one of my vassals decided to take down the buffer states I had left between us :S

Yeah, I have been OP before and know that can be rather boring. But that's why I'd like to create the HRE and cede so much territory before conversion. I might not even play as the Romans, I just want a different map!
