Evasolde County
The lands of Evasolde are the poorest in the steppe. It's not the land itself that is so desolate, but the large amounts of people. The ruined castle, for which the county is named, once stood as a bulwark against Jatu raiders crossing the river into Ravenstern and the lands of Poinsbruk. The ruins of the castle remain as a testament to the noble history of the surrounding lands.
With some of the more fertile lands that characterize Ravenstern rather than the steppe, Evasolde was once a reasonably prosperous county. It was always a backwater outpost in the times of Kings of Ravenstern, but hardly the purgatory it has become. The destruction of Poinsbruk led to thousands of refugees crossing the bridge to the well-defended outpost of Evasolde March. Although the Jatu were long gone, the war between the nobles and the Silvermist matched their carnage.
In the end, the castle was all but destroyed as well. The lords and knights of the former March were laid low by the arrows, blades, disease, and famine. Many of the peasants would prefer to leave the county, but choose to stay for family or fear. Still others refuse to leave the shard of old Ravenstern that remains.
The arrival of Tysha Abaddon and her band of soldiers for hire signaled another turning point. Many of the refugees had once served in the armies of Ravenstern, or fought for the Order of the Ravenspear as mercenaries, yet there was still no order. 'Lady' Tysha quickly restored law to the over-crowded villages. Hangings were common in the first days, as were beheadings of more prominent civilians. The rule of Eunomia Stabilitis was shown through the lioness from Sarleon, and the villagers accepted whatever order she would bring. The meager wealth brought by Abaddon-aligned traders supports the populace for the time being, and professional soldiers drill those of the proper age into becoming proper soldiers.

Re: Evasolde County
OOC: This ran... very long. So I butchered it with the delete button. It should at least be of a reasonable length though!
The Expedition to Poinsbruk
The Expedition to Poinsbruk
- Spoiler:
The blighted lands of the north had little to offer in the way of loot. A few abandoned carts to haul back, but nothing worthy of Tysha's attention or the steward's quill. The eery silence of the lands near Poinsbruk began to unsettle the seasoned Countess of Evasolde. Her instincts told her trouble was on the horizon, and she knew to trust her instincts.
---------------------
The first scout rode up to her in excitement. A Mystmountain band had been spotted, of numbers small enough to strike. Tysha declined to engage them, not without the other scouts' reports.
The second scout brought other news. A larger gathering of the Mystmountain savages. The numbers exceeded her own, but that alone wasn't an obstacle that couldn't be overcome.
The third scout returned as the sun drifted low, marking the later afternoon. There were more than just a few warbands led by shamans, it was an invasion force. Tysha delayed the retreat back to Evasolde, she had to see it for herself. She rode ahead with the scout, able to see for herself the dire situation. It was a warlord of the Mystmountain tribes, not a mere warchief. A force this large without families meant it wasn't intent on settling Poinsbruk.
---------
The horde was too large, and too powerful for Tysha to face alone. A quiet retreat was ordered, but she had delayed too long. One of the warbands had found her party and cut off their retreat. The noise of battle would surely draw the others, so the lioness ordered the charge. Steel met with flesh, and arrows met with shields. The savages were fierce, but her own soldiers fiercer. The path to Evasolde was opened, but the horde would surely catch them as they tried to cross the river.
---------
The decision was made with a simple nod, and the peasants the Countess hadn't equipped were led in a charge. Only her grandfather's bastard could have inspired such a feat. He was an unyielding man in combat, perhaps his way of shouting to the world that though he may be a bastard, anything taken in war would be his 'til the end of time. Of course, he was a bastard, not a fool. Once the peasants were engaged, he slipped away in the darkness of dusk to make his own way back to Evasolde.
