But, seriously, it seems very interesting. I'm looking forward to preventing any Astraean dominance in the Steppe..with bloodied mercenary swords.

Well, you are the fourth purely Astraean character, in the steppe. It is like people don't remember the existence of other gods...

I considered going that route, but it's a bit of a tossup between Merchant Connections and Priest for this character. I settled on Merchant.

And yeah, I realize there's a few Astraeans about.

Yes, but the plus side is, it will be easier for you to find allies in the dangerous steppe!

Astraea is an easy goddess to default to, because "The Light" and "Justice" and stuff. Also, there really doesn't seem to be any real gods or goddesses in Pendor that are war related, favors Pendorians, and are generally good. The only other goddess I can see is possibly Eunomia Stabilitis, but that seems more of a Sarleon religion. (Says the Astraean when Astraea is way over in Fierdsvain lands.) UllrVetr, the "Ranger God", can be associated with Ravenstern and where Simon originally comes from, but the House of Lane focuses more on foot soldiers than ranged units.

Simon does technically fall under the Astraean religion, but I like to think he breaks the mold and does his own practices instead of following what the majority usually do.

Still, another Astraean in the Steppe! Soon, a grand crusade shall be held to cleanse the Steppe of the unworthy. (Of course, Simon never participates in anything, so he'll just be chilling up north.)

Anyways, I find myself suddenly interested in Astraea and specifically if she has a darker side as well. You know, as in blind justice and dark justice. While the Dawn seemed to be rather extreme in their methods, they did seem to hold that Astraea is some sort of paragon of virtues.

Realistically though, I also believe it's because other gods and goddesses in the Pendorian pantheon aren't worshipped as devoutly as Astraea. Nor do they have large knighthoods or church organizations devoted to them.

It would be nice to have a Bishop on the Steppe!

For the record, Tysha's brother is the Bishop of Evasolde and priest of Eunomia Stabilitis.

Back to Rolando: I think it's a good set-up. The Merchant Connections vs Priest is just a different way to view the character. If he's more... regal, then Merchant Connections makes sense. Flavor it as donations from the faithful or a share of the Church's wealth sent to the Steppe. If he's more of a hands-on kind of cleric (IE, the current RL Pope) then Priest would be more fitting. Alternately it's just a gameplay decision of more wealth vs more manpower.  

Since Mordred may not be around, should we just do a poll on Eadburga? It seems odd to replace one of the NPCs that has been acting while keeping one that hasn't.

He was online today, albeit shortly. I'm sure that by the time the bio is posted, Mordred will have had his say about the matter.

The setup looks fine to me Rolando (stealing Roland's name much ) .

As to character... I do actually play Eadburga as actively as the others, but I post her orders up on my private board - she's very reclusive and I may use her as an NPC in future events. Most likely casualty will be Hernando, so take hex 19. Only condition... mention of a codpiece must mournfully be inserted somewhere in an IC post.

What about splitting some of Eadburga's manpower to the 3-3 hexes? It just seems very... underwhelming, even in comparison to the 1-7 hex. At least with Valdir's 5-3 he has the wealth to play around with.

Hold that, I might have a better solution.

Vealdis is unfortunately pulling out completely due to more extreme time constraints than he had anticipated. Therefore, Rolando will get his county (Hex 3) as his new home.

It's a shame to lose Vealdis.  Hopefully things work out well for him IRL!

Now to see how I fix my lost income from him...  

Edit: How do we deal with upgrades and income and such from our previous turns? And what Vealdis had built?

Everything Vealdis had will transfer to Rolando. Any surpluses, I will work out. Basically one Count was removed and another instated in their place, but life in the County itself goes on.

Nah, this turn's stuff is done. Rolando begins as of next week (so first orders are due on Sunday 4th August)

And I had already edited my orders! I'll put it back in quickly though. One unit of peasants to spearmen and one stockade.
