Aftermath Kingmaker
So...
I have decided to accept a quest of great danger and with great potential for much frustration. As many of you will know, I am a game designer by trade - this means I mess around with developing rules and systems for games, often populating those systems with connecting threads of lore. What I do not do however, is actually implement any of this stuff in a digital format, this is the realm of artists and programmers.

I just downloaded "Game Maker" and am going to try my damnest to make the rules of Aftermath Reborn into, well, a computer game. I've successfully completed the tutorial, and made a moving clown go "boing!" a lot. Next was creating the actual game which I am dubbing "Aftermath Kingmaker".
Step 1. Create a board.
* Making it out of hexes proved too tough, so i've settled for squares. It actually worked better as you will be able to move diagonally too, so raiders will have 8 targets instead of just 6.
Step 2. Attach each square to a database
* This means make each square a data point so that I can assign value like square number, wealth, manpower, units present, etc.
Two hours later, that's as far as I got, just a board split into lovely squares but no data base, and no flashy numbers which show up on the strategic map. I still hate programming
Sleepy time now, but the quest will go on!

Must admit it fell by the wayside a little, damn you Civ 5 and Neverwinter Nights 2!
Unfortunately I am going to be busy with work for the next week or two, so somewhat doubt I will have time to work on it meaningfully for a while. :S
